The Project
This project was created as a way of exploring the idea of identity in the modern world. Therefore, I chose to use a pop culture icon (Star War’s stormtrooper) meant to represent uniformity, and manipulated it to bring individual identities to the exterior of the helmet.
The Materials
Being experienced in clay sculpting as well as slip casting, I chose to do this project using ceramics. I decided it was a vibrant way of producing almost assembly-line identical helmets that could be then glazed with different colors, textures and patterns.
The glazes included different cultural patterns or tattooing techniques, as well as crackling glazes or crystals that would explode in the kiln and produce unique patterns.
